A model of colour appeared in every runway show at New York Fashion Week 

During New York Fashion Week, which ran from February 6 – 16, 2017, every runway show featured a model of colour, according to a report by The Fashion Spot.

This is said to be the first time it’s ever happened.

The Fashion Spot examined 116 major New York shows — which included 2.700 runway appearances, and found that 31.5% of models were non-white.

Media brand campaigns against under representation of black women in British media

A lifestyle media brand run for and by women of black British origin has started a crowdfunding campaign which they hope will fix the issue of under representation of black women in British media.

The Black Ballad team believe a subscription site will create a safe space for black British women to share their personal experiences.

“The platform will create articles, podcasts and videos around different aspects of black British life,” they explain in a statement on their website.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie: “America is at a strange place now. But women still need to know what moisturizer works!”

In an interview with Racked journalist Cheryl Wischhover, Nigeria-born writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie admitted that even though she was mourning the US presidential election result, she still cares about makeup.

“I think America is at a strange place now. But I think women still need to know what damn moisturizer works in the winter,” said Adichie in a phone interview.

June Sarpong announced as face of new campaign for darker foundation shades

June Sarpong is the official campaign ambassador for a new UK initiative working to make darker foundation shades for people of colour.

L’Oreal, Revlon and Maybelline are committing to add an additional 23 shades of foundation for darker skin tones between them, as part of Superdrug’s Shades of Beauty campaign, according to Cosmetics Business.

Carol’s daughter launches gif-based social media campaign

Natural hair and skincare brand Carol’s daughter has launched the #BornAndMade campaign, asking women to upload an old and new image of themselves, and explain how they have evolved.

After a similar campaign last year, the brand got OITNB actress Dacsha Polanco, among others, to promote the initiative with a video exploring her journey to who she is today.
